If you have a garden, you have everything in this world…. a world of your own, to plant, nurture and grow…. not only plants but your soul!
Pools have become such an integral part of Australian homes, allowing families to entertain, stay active, and keep cool in the warm summer months. Our recent Sorrento landscape project is a prime example of this - drawing the concepts of pool landscaping and entertainment as our primary focus.
For this particular project, the owner wanted to transform the back of the property into a relaxing and functional area for entertaining that incorporated a large swimming pool. Our landscaping team worked closely with the owner to achieve this goal.
The swimming pool was the centrepiece of the Sorrento landscaping project. We designed a pool with an inbuilt heated spa, which was placed along the upper side boundary. This made optimal use of the available backyard space while ensuring it had a seamless flow with the rest of the garden.
Recognising the importance of aesthetics, our team cleverly disguised the pool pump in our design while keeping it accessible for maintenance. This allowed for both form and function without compromising the area’s look.
Additionally, we designed a creative pool and planting fencing solution to give the garden a modern look. We selected materials that balance beauty with low upkeep, ensuring the space remains easy to care for while retaining its luxurious appearance.
The steps and pathways surrounding the pool were designed with equal care. We used travertine pavers to create steps that connected the lower synthetic turf area to the upper deck and repurposed the existing sun deck to build a stylish bar top. These pathways not only look elegant but also make movement around the space smooth and intuitive.
Additionally, we carefully chose materials surrounding the garden that complemented the Italian-style home. From paving to edging, everything was picked to blend beautifully with the house’s aesthetic.
Finally, we ensured the owners had privacy in their backyard without obstructing their view of the beautiful Sorrento sunset. We installed a Corten steel privacy screen along the edge of the pool that added an artistic element to the space, while maintaining privacy.
The site was steep, with a fall of approximately 1.7 metres from the top level to the bottom. We used the pool edge to help retain the site, as it was more than 1.2 metres out of the ground and pool fencing was not required on that edge.
Additionally, we created flat usable areas in the space by retaining the top and bottom tiers and placing central steps for access.
Our successful project was built on years of experience in re-designing landscapes in Sorrento. With knowledge of sustainable material types and the best practices in pool space maximisation, we were able to deliver a delightful result to the homeowners.
The end product was a stunning space with an out-of-ground concrete pool and a luxurious heated spa, complemented by an outdoor shower area and new decking - perfect for entertaining and sunset viewing.

Strategic garden lighting was installed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for evening entertaining.
The viewing area, with the bar table and stools, was cleverly designed to maximise views of Sorrento and the sunset.
To modernise the space, we removed the old balustrading and replaced it with sleek stainless steel wires, giving the area a contemporary, open feel.
